Safety & materials
Safety isn't fine print here — it's most of the reason we exist. Every toy we sell goes to a small child's hands (and, let's be honest, mouth), so this page explains how we choose our toys, what we ask of every supplier, and how to keep wooden toys in good shape for years.
What we promise
- Real materials. Solid wood and other natural materials, chosen to be held, stacked, and chewed on — not flashing plastic doing the playing for your child.
- Specific claims only. We don't use vague labels like "non-toxic." Where we describe a finish or a material, we say exactly what it is on that product's page — and only when our supplier's documentation backs it up.
- Documentation before listing. We require US toy-safety documentation from our suppliers before a toy enters the catalog, and we'd rather skip a beautiful toy than sell one we can't stand behind.
Materials and finishes
Our toys are made primarily from solid wood. Each product page lists what that specific toy is made of and how it's finished, so you never have to guess what's in your child's hands. Because real wood is a natural material, small variations in grain and color are its signature — not a defect.
Testing and compliance
Children's products sold in the US must meet the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and the ASTM F963 toy-safety standard — together they cover things like lead and phthalate limits, small-parts rules, and mechanical hazards. These requirements are the baseline for every toy we list, and we ask our suppliers for the documentation that shows it.
Age guidance and small parts
Every product page shows an age recommendation — it reflects both the developmental stage the toy serves and its safety grading, so please follow it. Toys graded for ages 3+ can contain small parts that are a choking hazard for children under 3. Where that applies, the warning appears on the product page and the packaging.
Caring for wooden toys
- Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap — don't soak, and skip the dishwasher.
- Dry immediately with a towel, away from radiators and direct sun.
- Skip harsh disinfectants; for a deeper clean, a 1:1 water and white-vinegar wipe works well.
- Treated kindly, a well-made wooden toy outlasts childhood — that's the point.
A note on supervision
Our toys are designed for young children and are meant to be used with an adult nearby. No toy replaces supervision, especially under 3.
