When a number stops being a squiggle

On a worksheet, “seven” is just a shape they copy down. Here, seven is seven beads they slide across with their own thumb - and then they snap the tiles “5 + 2 = 7” into the rail above and watch the two halves line up. The first time it clicks, they look up like they cracked a code nobody told them. Screen off, you beside them, the number finally something they can hold.

Where counting becomes proving

It does one thing, honestly: it makes a number visible, then lets a child prove it. Quiet, hands-on work for a growing mind:

🔢 Counts in tens to 100

🔧 Builds equations with operator tiles

✨ Makes adding and subtracting visible

🧩 Sorts beads by color row

It's very good, i recommend seller and store too

Wooden Tabletop Abacus with Number Tiles - howto

How to play

  1. Slide all the beads to one side, then count them across one row at a time to ten.
  2. Group the beads into fives and tens to feel “how many” before any formal math.
  3. Slide some beads over and some back to act out simple adding and taking-away.
  4. Place the matching number and symbol tiles in the top rail - “3 + 4 = 7” - so the bead move and the written equation finally mean the same thing.

From counting beads to first equations

The present a grandparent gives that's still on the desk three years later. A solid wood frame, beads on smooth steel rods, tiles to grow into - nothing to recharge, nothing to break. It carries a child from “one, two, three” to their first real equations, then waits for the next little one.

Questions, answered

It's a wooden tabletop abacus, about 22.5 cm (8.9 in) tall: 100 colored wooden beads on 10 stainless-steel rows in an upright wooden frame. What sets it apart is the slotted rail across the top that holds removable number and symbol tiles, so a child can build a written equation (like "5 + 3 = 8") right above the beads they just counted.

One standing wooden abacus (10 rows x 10 beads = 100 beads) plus a set of double-sided tiles - numerals and the math symbols +, -, x, division and =. It builds early counting, number sense and the first bridge to written arithmetic.

Designed for roughly ages 3 to 6, and it keeps earning its place as a child moves into early arithmetic. Because it includes small beads and tiles, it's a supervised, table-top toy - an adult should judge the right moment for their own child.

It turns abstract numbers into something they can touch and then write. Sliding and grouping beads builds counting and number sense; the tile rail bridges to written math, so a child sees that "five beads and three beads" and "5 + 3 = 8" are the same idea - exactly the bridge most kids need before math lives only on paper.

Yes - real wood, one clear purpose, hands-on and self-correcting. The child sets the beads, builds the equation, and sees for themselves whether the two match. No lights or sounds do the thinking for them.

A solid wood frame with glossy colored wooden beads on smooth stainless-steel rods, finished with a water-based, non-toxic finish and safety-tested (test reports on file). Smooth rounded edges throughout.

No. Nothing to charge or plug in - a fully screen-free, hands-on toy that's just as happy on a desk as it is in a travel bag.
